I think every year since I started the blog I have posted my Christmas list. Some of its big extravagant things…a girl can dream…and some of it is more sensible. Without further ado I give you my list:

1. Ipad2: There are lots of things I can do with one of these. The main reason is for travel. It would be nice to carry this little thing on a plane with me instead of my laptop and books. Definitely a space saver. I am currently reading the Steve Jobs biography and hate lugging it around, needless to say, I haven’t gotten too far. I could also use it to watch movies when traveling.

2. Star Wars: The Complete Saga on blu ray. I waited to buy any of the films until they came out together. So, its time

3. The Help. I LOVED this movie. It’s the kind of movie you own, so that when you come into contact with people who haven’t seen it, you can readily have it, to show it to them. It’s a movie that everyone should see. It is one of the best films of the year. TOP 5.

4. Perfume: I wear Happy Heart…and I’m out.

5.Frames. I’m planning on making a wall in my apartment all art and frames, so I need lots of them. Antique, unique, black, purple, and turquoise.

6. Drill. Um…self explanatory. I usually borrow my friend David’s. But I think its time I have my own. Even if I have never used one, haha. I need to put up my curtains. People can see into my apartment. My blinds are see through!

7. Baskets. For my closet. I don’t have a dresser anymore. So I need little baskets for my closet to put some of the smaller things in i.e. unmentionables, socks, scarves. Right now they are still in boxes…a little depressing.

8. Clothes. This is probably the last thing I spend money on. And if you asked my sister, it’s the number one thing I should be spending my money on. Most of the clothes I have are 3 years old or more. So the wardrobe probably needs an update.

9. Giving Key. I have given a few of these necklaces to some important people in my life, but I have yet to get one for myself, so I would love to have one! Check them out!

10. Plane tickets. I am planning to go to Hawaii in October for my friends Ryan & Jenna’s wedding. And I would also like to make a tripe to NY City to see Newsies on Broadway. As well as make a trip back to Austin to see everyone I love there, and EAT! HAHA

Top 10 is appropriate I feel. What’s on some of your lists?

Until next time…Happy Holidays and PEACE OUT!

Yes, Yes…I am a major slacker. It has been too long since my last post. I have had a rough last couple months, so let me update you quickly if you haven’t been following my social feeds.

I moved to LA in January. I found the apartment I was living in after only having 2 days to search. I learned the hard way. It ended up being a disaster. Not such a good area. Loud, dirty, smelly neighbors. Horrible management. And the worst of all…ROACHES!

My apartment had been fumigated I think a total of 7 times by the time I moved out. Luckily with the help of my savvy mother, some lawyer friends, i.e. Diane Foos and Geoffrey Westbrook, and the law on my side, I was able to get out of my lease early.

After living in LA for almost a year I had picked out a few areas that were much more desirable. Safer, cheaper, closer to places I enjoyed, and walking distance to restaurants/stores. After looking for a few weeks with no success I was getting super frustrated and feeling like I was never going to find something. My mom came down for a visit and there was an open house I had found on Craigslist that I wanted to check out. We were the first one’s there. We took a look and basically knew “it was the one!” I went straight to the management offices, filled out the application and within an hour was called by the management company letting me know I had been accepted and the place was mine!

I moved into the super cute studio with a separate kitchen and bathroom on Wednesday, November 30th. It’s in a small building, on a safe street in between Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose, right next to Fairfax. AWESOME LOCATION! West Hollywood or what the locals like to call WeHo is my new home. It is cheaper than my previous place and has some great character. I couldn’t be more happy.

I did have some problems when I moved in i.e. not properly cleaned, things not fixed, broken fridge. But most of it has been fixed. A special lady in my life, Marty Wagner, helped put things into perspective when she asked, “Any cockroaches?” I said “No.” And she replied, “Little blessings in the big things!” It is true. Everything that was wrong could be easily fixed, unlike the pesky bugs who enjoyed my lemonade at my last place!

I was finally connected back with the world on Wednesday when my internet and DirectTV was set up. I will say, the one sad thing is not having AT&T U-verse anymore. If you are close to me, you know how much I love them. The ability to record up to 4 shows at one time is a lifesaver. Now with Direct I have to choose to watch some shows online and others to record. I know this is a “first world problem,” but TV is one of my passions and an industry I hope to one day work in, so it’s a big deal to me

So, with being plugged back into the world I decided I needed to jump back on the blog and give you all a quick update. I’m hoping to get back into blogging regularly, but I’m not gonna promise anything since it is the holidays, I’m still unpacking, and I’m trying to catch up on shows, podcasts, and read two books!

Hope you all enjoy this time of year surrounded by family and friends. And remember to be thankful for the little blessings in your life because they are what make each day worthwhile

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

I’m getting around to this post a little later than I wanted to. Last Sunday was the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Because of this, many of the podcast I listen to centered around this event or about Islam. They were all enlightening, encouraging and made me want to share them with you.

The first is from “This American Life.” I blogged about this podcast in March of 2010. This week they chose to share stories from people who had previously been on the show and whose lives had been affected by the events that happened on 9/11. The most touching story for me was about a Muslim teenage girl who had to move schools. Here’s the link to check it out.

Neue is a podcast that was created by the makers of RELEVANT magazine. It usually spotlights ministers and thinkers that are shaping the future of the church. This week they interviewed Eboo Patel. He is the founder and President of the Intrerfaith Youth Core. Throughout the interview they discuss 9/11, as well as how Muslims and Christians can work together. It is a really good interview and Patel has good ideas. I highly recommend it. Here’s the link.

Last, but not least. My church Mosaic started a new series last week. Here’s a video from Erwin, the Pastor, explaining what it’s all about.

The Truth Between Us – A conversation at Mosaic from Mosaic LA on Vimeo.

Last week he started with Islam. In the beginning he shared a conversation he had with Mustafa Akyol. Akyol is Muslim in Turkey and has written the book “Islam Without Extremes.” It was a nice change to hear Islam described by an actual Muslim, than by a pastor spouting off facts he’s read about. I encourage you to listen to this message. It was great to hear someone re-iterate things that I have thought about for a long time. Here’s the link.

I hope one or all three of these leaves you with a new perspective and something to think about. If you do happen to listen to one, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time..PEACE OUT!

FALL TV IS BACK FINALLY!!! Which means the end of any kind of free time I had, as well as less time to use my Netflix membership. Here is a rundown of the shows I have watched so far:

Anderson:

I have been looking forward to this new show. Hoping it would fill my Oprah void and give me a little bit of time with my 2nd favorite news anchor Anderson Cooper (1st is Brian Williams), since I no longer have CNN. When discussing the show with my friend Joe he described it as “a mix between Oprah and Ellen.” I definitely think this is a perfect description. The first episode was educational for me. Anderson interviewed Amy Winehouse’s family. I didn’t know too much about her history, so it was interesting to hear it from the people who were closest to her.

The 2nd episode was more fluff. Anderson had Kathy Griffin on, which is always a good time and makes for good television. He also did a segment with Snooki. They went tanning together. Two things I learned: One, you can get your teeth whitened at a tanning salon. Two, Anderson has some nice muscles. And actually a third, Snooki has done TOO MUCH spray tanning.

I’m looking forward to today’s episode that will have two women who were abandoned at birth. Should be interesting.

Ellen

Ellen’s new season started with a bang. It was fun to have Ashton Kutcher on, but the best part of the show is when Ellen brought on an elementary school principal from Las Vegas. The school helps the families of students that attend the school. For example, if the kids need clothes or glasses the school help provides those. Or if a family cannot pay their rent/mortgage/bills, the school helps pay them. The school asks for donations and many small businesses in the area participate. But of course it is hard to keep up with the demands. the principal shared that last week she had to choose to buy food or pay a bill for toilet paper. It is a very inspiring story. In the end Target ended up giving the school $100,000 and each kid got a new backpack filled with goodies. Got a little misty eyed.

Yesterday’s episode was fun because it shared Ellen’s visit with Taylor Swift when she was in LA. The combination of Ellen and TSwift is always hilarious. I wish they could make a weekly segment together. Ellen also had the Sidewinder, a band from the Missouri Air National Guard perform. I had not heard about their viral video, but they have real talent. One thing I learned: They are not allowed to receive a gift more than $25.

Ringer

The big return to TV for Sarah Michelle Gellar. It’s all everyone is talking about. The crazy, twisty plot definitely drew me in. As well as the other actors involved i.e. Nestor Carbonell and Kristoffer Polaha, and soon to be on Jason Dohring. The Pilot did a good job of trying to explain the main premise, as well as alluding to the many mysteries that will ensue in the future. I love when a show keeps secrets like this. My imagination goes wild. Which should be apparent from my love of the show Lost. I am hooked. The only negative point I have from the episode was the boat scene. It was very fake and hokey. Wish they could have done better with that. But all in all I am excited.

Parenthood

One of my favorite shows. I want to be a Braverman! I literally sit while watching it, trying to think of ways to make my family do things like they do. It’s kind of hard when my family is a little spread out, but I’m hoping to make a dance party at our next get together As much as I am happy about the show being back on, there are a few things I did not like about the return: One: Haddie’s hair! It was driving me crazy! Please get rid of her perm! And I’m tired of her selfish attitude. Would love to have her mature ASAP. Two: I want good things to happen for Alex. He’s come so far. Three: I want Crosby to find real love. None of this one night stand crap. OK, I’m done venting. Still loved the show though and excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the season.

Alright…That’s all for now..But I will check in later this week to update you on the other shows I watch. What are you watching this season? Did you watch any of these? What are your thoughts?

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

10 years ago today I was a senior at Oak Ridge High School. I was home alone. My mom was out-of-town and my sister was staying at a friend’s house. I was still sleeping when I heard my mom’s TV on. For a moment I freaked out that someone was in my house. But then I remembered my mom wakes up to her TV and she probably just forgot to turn her alarm off.

I walked into her room to turn it off and this is when I saw the terrible events unfolding. I watch for a few minutes confused. I decide to call my mom. I call and she has no idea what’s going on. So, I tell her to turn on the TV. She instructs me that I must go to school unless they send me home. I have no idea how I got ready that morning without being glued to the TV.

My first class of the day was contemporary literature. We wrote in journals every morning. Here is an excerpt from mine on that day:

“Today was a horrible day for the United States. In New York there has been a terrorist attack. Two planes from Boston were hijacked and crashed into the towers of the Trading buildings. And both towers eventually came down. Another plane, or two, we don’t know yet, came down on the Pentagon and a piece has crumbled away. There are also reports that car bombs went off in front of the State building and there was another plane crash in Pennsylvania. Many lives have been taken, this is a horrible event and it is sad what has happened!”

The rest of the school day is hazy. What I do remember though, is all of my teachers went through the day like nothing was happening. We had to sit in class and try to focus. I was so frustrated that none of them brought it up or discussed it with us.

10 years later I sit, listen and watch the names of those who were lost. I reflect. I take this time to thank all of those who sacrifice everyday to keep America safe: Our police , firemen/women, paramedics, and the armed services all around the world. THANK YOU!

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Homelessness. Something many in America have never personally experienced. We maybe have our hard times, job loss, cutting out the extras from our budgets, but most of us have some sort of support to turn to when we have hit rock bottom to help us out.

We may come in contact with the homeless on the street. We may have helped them for a fleeting moment in time like giving them a meal, a jacket, or sleeping bag. And some of us have gone even further to actually have a conversation with some.

On Saturday I had an encounter with a homeless woman (I will refer to her as Patty for the rest of the post) that really caused me to sit and think about the problem in our society. Here’s the play-by-play:

I was working on Saturday morning. For those who don’t know, I work at an Optometrist office. Just a typical, slow, uneventful Saturday; until Patty came in.

I was in the back of the office when I heard the front door open. I looked through our swinging doors, they remind me of doors that would be in a western saloon, and saw a woman. She had short spiky shiny brown hair peeking through a sweatband. Her skin was tan and worn like leather. You could tell she had been in the elements for a while. She was wearing a t-shirt and fingerless gloves.

Before I was able to make it to the front desk to greet her she was already signing her name on our sign-in sheet. I greeted her with a warm “Hello” and asked if there was anything I could help her with. She responded by pointing to a framed poster behind me about Lasik saying, “I want to talk to someone about Lasik.”

To talk to a Doctor about Lasik, one must have an exam first to see if he/she would be a candidate. Saturday’s are always packed full in our office. So, I explained to the woman if she were interested she would need to set up an appointment with the Dr. for an exam.

Patty did not like my answer and again told me she wanted to talk to someone about Lasik.

This is when the conversation turned.

Patty began to twitch a little bit in her neck and arms. She looked over on the other side of our counter and noticed a mug full of pens. She kindly asked if she could have one, and I said, “Yes.”

Patty returned to place herself right in front of me, looked me in the eyes and as serious as one could be asked, “Are you killing angels?”

Right away I went into defense mode. I was thrown off by her question and immediately began to feel heartbroken, thinking she must have something wrong with her. She is probably mentally ill. I answered her question, not wanting to cause a scene, as we had a patient being helped on the other side of the room. I answer, “No.”

She begins to explain there is a man going around who is murdering angels. He is a bad man. I need to be on the lookout for him. He may try to hurt us. I need to not worry because her mom is going to come and help those who are not sinners.

Patty’s next question: “Are you a sinner?”

In that moment I had think about what the best answer might be. It didn’t matter what I really thought. I just wanted to keep her calm and end our conversation without commotion. But in that moment I decided to answer how I really felt, “Everyone is a sinner.”

She did not like my answer. She fired back, “No! Maybe all the people you know. Angels aren’t sinners.”

My response, “Angels are not people.”

I had all of a sudden gotten myself in a back forth debate with a homeless woman about spiritual things. How did this happen?! This is not my thing.

Patty settled down, turned towards the door and I thought she was going to leave. She saw our coffee and asked if she could fill up her cup. I politely told her, “Of course.”

As she re-fueled, I took a deep breath to ease my adrenaline that had gone through the roof.

She turned back to me, told me I was nice. Said a few more things that I cannot recall and on her way out asked one more question, “What is your name?”

I decided in a split second that I did not feel safe and blurted out “Suzy.” And that’s when Patty turned and left.

I quickly looked at the sign-in sheet to see what she wrote. She had taken a long time to write it out. She was very detailed and added arrows to the end of many letters of “Persephone Maximus”

For those of you who have not studied Greek Mythology, let me do quick breakdown for you: Persephone was Zeus’ daughter, the harvest goddess. She was kidnapped by Hades, the king of the underworld and then became the queen of the underworld.

Maximus in Latin means greatest/largest.

I of course cannot tell you why she chose to sign her name like this. But it did creep me out after all was said and done.

As I sit and ponder this conversation in my head, it makes my heart heavy. There are many times in our society where the general public views the homeless as those who are lazy or addicts. Those who are not trying to help themselves get off the street and make something for their own lives.

In reality there are many who are sick. Who do not have a support system like many do; or resources to help get them out of the situation they are in. Many are mentally ill and will stay on the street, disowned by anyone they come into contact with, because there are not people out there who will/can help them.

And I can include myself among those. As much as I don’t want to lump myself with everyone else, it’s the horrible truth. During my encounter with Patty, I was scared. She was unpredictable. I didn’t know if one moment she was going to be nice and the next moment flip out. Which is also my reaction when I come into contact with the homeless on the street.

So the challenge today is to learn from experience. Try everyday to make a difference. Because where lunch, or a blanket, or one conversation may be great things to do, in reality they do not offer any long-term help and are only putting a small Band-Aid on a surgery wound.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Winning is not something I have been gifted with. I haven’t been blessed like Charlie Sheen. I am not the lucky person who wins radio contests, or raffles and drawings. It’s just not in my blood. But my luck picked a great day to change.

MuteMath is a band I have enjoyed since 2007. They are an alternative rock band from New Orleans. Their rock sound is accompanied with a little bit of an electronic sound. And they are one of my favorite bands to watch. They are all very animated, well, Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas, the bass player, usually stays cool and collected near the rear, but his hair stands out the most. And he wears jean on jean better than Jay Leno.

It has been since 2007 that I have seen them live. So, when tickets for their latest show in L.A. went on sale without my knowledge, and then proceeded to sell out before I knew about it, I was upset to say the least.

As their concert came and went this week I was pretty bummed. I am a social network junkie, if you don’t know me that well. So, when I saw MuteMath twitter that there was another chance for me to see them, I jumped on it. It was a simple process, fill out my name, age, the usual, and be entered to see them play at their label Warner Bros. for an intimate show. I entered without a second thought. And didn’t think much about it after because after all, I don’t win things. But August 18th, 2011 was the day all that changed.

At work on my lunch break I got an email informing I was one of ten winners to see MuteMath at WB. Here is the invite:

Invited to see them play, and have drinks and lunch from Ruth’s Chris! Awesome! But there was a catch. The show was at noon in Burbank. I work on Fridays! And there is no way the show and my drive time would be in an hour for me to be able to go on my lunch break. We were already short people. The office manager who does reception with me was out-of-town and one of our opticians was sick. There was no way I could call in sick and have the office struggle. So, I decided to be a responsible adult. I e-mailed WB back and told them I couldn’t go because of work. Thanked them for the opportunity and told them to give my spot to someone else. This was so hard.

Ten minutes later I got an e-mail back. This is what it said, “We will keep you on the list just in case you ‘call in sick’ tomorrow.” How could they tempt me like this?! This was a once in a lifetime opportunity! After contemplating for a while I decided I would just talk to the Doctor and tell him what happened. I expected the answer to be no, but if I didn’t even try, I would regret it.

I took him aside and explained the situation. And to my surprise he said that I could go as long as our sick optician showed up the next day and I had to come to work in the morning and come back after. Woot!!! This was the best news ever. I found out that evening the optician was coming in and I was good to go. I e-mailed WB back and told them I was in!

I got to bring a guest and the person I automatically thought of was my friend David. He’s actually the one that introduced me to the band. We met up at the studio and were the first one’s there. We got to see the band set up and sound check.

The patio filled up quickly around noon and we soon realized that the majority of people who were there worked at Warner Bros. It ended up being a showcase for MuteMath to share some of their new songs to their label. And we got to be a part of it. Pretty cool. The sad thing was they only did a 30 minute set. I think they played 4 or 5 of their new songs and then ended the with “Spotlight,” which is their song that was featured on the Twilight soundtrack. I love that song, and not because it was in Twilight. And it was my first time hearing them play live. It was great!

Paul Meany, the lead singer’s voice has a really unique tone. And like I said earlier he is entertaining to watch. When I saw MuteMath back in 2007 it was at a venue with a really low ceiling. Meany went to flip over his keys when he hit the ceiling. Whoops! And this small show was no different. My favorite moments are when he whips out the tambourine or this fun stage toy:

After the show, when everything was being torn down, the band hung out and people were going up and talking to them. It was at that moment I began to get nervous. This was my opportunity to talk with them and I was chickening out! David and I got in the long line for lunch, that happened to go right by where they were. At one point the line moved, I moved, but David stuck around and got to chatting with my favorite drummer Darren King. By the time I got the guts to go back and try to butt in, the convo had ended and I lost my guts to begin my own chat.

As we were finally nearing the food, Todd Gummerman, the bands new guitarist, came up to us and asked if he could cut to get some food. We gladly obliged as he stated he hadn’t eaten since Thursday’s lunch. We got to small talk with him. And we was really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. On stage at first he seems like he doesn’t quite match the rest of the band, but he is a talented guitarist and is as animated while playing as Meany and King.

We enjoyed the lunch. It was REALLY good. If I ever get a chance to go to Ruth’s Chris, I know what to order now The event was coming to a close and the band members were slowly leaving because they had to hop on a flight to New Orleans. This was my last chance to talk to my favorite drummer, King. He was walking by towards the exit and I blurted out “Darren!” He looked over, and then proceeded to walk over to us. In a moment I had thrown my plate of food to David so I could shake his hand and talk like the good Italian girl I am. He was super sweet and when I ask for his picture he said, “I would be honored.” And it wasn’t in a cheesy way, it was totally genuine.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to chat with Roy. I really wanted to take a picture with both of us highlighting out lovely brunette locks, but he was first to get in the van. And when we were on our way to talk to Meany, a group of girls, who didn’t even know his name, jumped in front of us to take a pic and then he headed out. I promise I’m not holding a grudge…well, maybe just a little, haha.

But all in all, it was a success! It was one of the best things I have been a part of. And made me really want to work there. We will see. But it did inspire me to get my gears moving faster when it comes to my dream career.

I’ll leave you with this video MuteMath to give you an idea of who they if you don’t know. And here is the link of the performance I saw. I tried to embed this one, but it was cooperating with me. And if you like it, I would encourage you to hop over to iTunes and buy everything they have Their new album comes out in October, so be on the look out for that. And I know they will be on the October cover of Relevant Magazine as well.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Alright…I have been in the movie house a good amount these last couple weeks and wanted to share my thoughts about them.

First Viewed: 30 Minutes or Less starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, and Nick Swardson. I saw this at a screening in Culver City.

The beginning of the movie I began to have second thoughts about my decision to watch it. But in the end I enjoyed it for the most part. It was a very interesting concept. And was amused to find out there was a real story that was similar to the movie’s plot.

In short, the movie is about Nick (Eisenberg) who is a pizza delivery boy. Two strangers kidnap him, strap a bomb on him, and tell him he has to rob a bank and give them the money or they will blow him up.

Everyone was funny, but the one who stole the movie for me was Ansari as Nick’s friend Chet. To be honest, Ansari could read the dictionary and I would be rolling on the floor laughing. There is just something about him.

I don’t know if the film is worth seeing it in the theatre, but I would say it’s a decent rental.

Second Viewed: Crazy, Stupid, Love starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and Emma Stone.

I have been waiting to see this one for a long time. And it did not disappoint. The story intertwines most of the cast in their different phases of life and their views of relationships and love.

There were things that could have been improved (ask my friend Ka-ryn, she’ll fill you in ), but at the end I still LOVED IT! It had its funny moments, heart warming times, and a couple twists.

I would definitely recommend it and I think even most guys would find it enjoyable as well.

And I would not be opposed to Ryan Gosling starring in every film I see. He is in two movies this fall

Third Viewed: The Help starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Octavia Spencer.

The film is centered around 2 main “housekeeper’s” (Davis and Spencer) in Mississippi in the 1960′s. Skeeter (Stone), who is a budding writer decides to write a story from the point of view of the help.

I’m kind of a junkie when it comes to movies like this. Movies that make you sad at times but in the end ultimately inspire. Which is exactly what this one did. Except in definitely included some good laughs. Enjoy yourself some pie

The entire cast was AMAZING! And if there are not some Oscar nominations I will be highly disappointed. GO SEE IT!!!!

If you’ve seen any of these films and have your own opinion, feel free to share in the comments below. Or if you’ve seen some other movies, what were they? Worth the ticket to the theater? Rental? Or don’t even bother? Would love to hear from you.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Last night I had a ticket to see a screening of “The Change-Up.” Last time I went to a screening at the Landmark, not too many people showed up. So, I thought I would grab some dinner and then get to the theatre an hour before the movie and I would be good. Well…I was wrong. The line was wrapping around the bridge. So, I was not confident I would make it in. I ended up making it to the front of the line. There were about 10 people in front of me, and they announced the screening was full.

There was another screening for the movie “Warrior.” I didn’t know anything about it, but they offered us in line to go to that screening because there were open seats. I looked it up really fast on IMDB and saw a picture of what looked like boxing. So, I thought “why not? I liked ‘The Fighter’ and ‘Rocky.’ I might as well give this one a try since I was here already.”

I got in, and the theatre was pretty full, but being there solo I was able to find a seat in the top middle. Before the film they gave away door prizes, which I had not entered for since I was “late to the party.” They also gave away a bunch of t-shirts. People were going crazy over t-shirts!

Here’s a quick synopsis of the film:

A young man comes back to his hometown to face his alcoholic father after leaving as a teenager with his mother. He was a wrestling champion in high school and decides to get back into the sport through MMA ( Mixed Martial Arts). His brother, who stayed with the father, but is now estranged, was also a wrestler. He is now married with a family and is a school teacher. After being suspended from his teaching job, he decides to get back into the sport through MMA as well.

If I had known this film was centered around MMA, I probably wouldn’t have gone to see it. MMA is a hard sport for me to watch. I wish someone had a camera on me while I was watching the movie during the fighting scenes. It would have been hilarious. I tend to cover and close my eyes. I can deal a little more with boxing because it is mainly punching. But when you add body slamming and kicking, it takes it to a whole other level.

Gavin O’Connor is the director. The film I am most familiar with of his is “Miracle,” which is a film I really enjoyed. So, I was confident somewhat with his capabilities of showcasing a sport film. But what made this film was the emotional story of this dysfunctional and for the most part disconnected family. And watching them struggle to be at peace with the past and move on into the future.

Nick Nolte, who plays Paddy Conlon, the recovering alcoholic father, did an amazing job. For some reason I wasn’t expecting too much from him, but he did great. I dare say he gives an Oscar worthy performance.

Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton play the Conlon brothers. Totally opposites and both great characters played by two smaller actors.

It is hard to write this review without mentioning the end. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but it’s a good one. I wanted more at the end. Which, most of the time is the sign of a good film.

There were parts of the film I felt could have been a little better. Some scenes were confusing because there was backstory that had not been revealed yet. And some of the transitions of scenes were abrupt. But it had a great score/soundtrack. Which is always a vital part for me in a film.

I would recommend seeing “Warrior.” Not sure if it is good enough to see in the theaters. But if you are a couple and your husband/boyfriend loves MMA, this may be a good one to go to, because it also has the family drama the ladies will be into

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Busy, Busy summer. I have done a good amount of traveling the last few months thanks to a few special people in my life getting hitched. Nowhere too exciting; all inside Cali.

With that being said, I have made a few solo driving trips up to NorCal. I have a system when I am on the 6hr drive. I listen to a podcast for an hour and then I listen to music for an hour. When I am out of podcasts I listen to the 7000+ songs…on shuffle.

I have a deal with myself in my head. I am not allowed to skip a song unless it is a Christmas song.

I will now share with you the last 28 songs on my road trip to show how eclectic my iPod is:

“Hey Joe” – The Gabe Dixon Band

“Supernatural” – DC Talk

“Here With Me” – Mercy Me

“Impossible” – Kelly Clarkson

“Satisfy” – Tenth Avenue North

“Tip of My Tongue” – The Civil Wars

“The Mess I Made” – Parachute

“If Everyone Cared” – Nickelback

“You Were Mine” – Dixie Chicks

“Soldier” – The Goo Goo Dolls

“Nothing to Me” – Tinted Windows

“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” – Elton John & Kiki Dee

“Seven Seas Of Rhye” – Queen

“Goodbye” – Secondhand Serenade

“Apologize” – OneRepublic

“The More Boys I Meet” – Carrie Underwood

“Fire” – Michael Johns

“Why Georgia” – John Mayer

“Underdog” – Audio Adrenaline

“You Will Leave a Mark” – A Silent Film

“Come On Over” – Shania Twain

“Lean Like a Cholo” – Down

“Smile” – Uncle Kracker

“Coming Home” – John Legend

“No Eye Had Seen” – Parachute Band

“Turn to You” – Michael Johns

“Magnetic Forces” – Castledoor

Definitely a hodge podge of music. But when you have 7000+ songs, there are numerous ones I have never listened to. There is not enough time in the day to listen to all my music and all my podcasts. But any kind of trip definitely helps me make a dent in them.

Do you have any trip contracts with yourself?

Until next time…PEACE OUT!
